AWS outage disrupts Binance, KuCoin, and other crypto exchanges

On April 15, a failure in the AWS cloud service caused disruptions in the operations of several major crypto exchanges, including Binance, KuCoin, and MEXC. Connectivity issues affected at least 12 services and temporarily disrupted exchanges and crypto wallets.
AWS is a key cloud solutions provider for crypto exchanges, ensuring their stable operation. The April 15 outage immediately impacted the entire industry.Binance was one of the first to report the failure: some orders were executed, others were not. Users were advised to try again. Later, the platform restored operations with AWS, including fund withdrawals.KuCoin also experienced temporary outages due to the AWS failure. MEXC faced chart errors, delays in order cancellations, and fund transfers, though users’ assets remained safe.According to the latest data, the AWS system issue affected at least eight crypto services, including Binance, KuCoin, MEXC, Coinstore, Gate.io, DeBank, Rabby Wallet, and Weex. The incident once again highlighted the vulnerability of centralized platforms: one provider's failure can halt multiple exchanges at once.The technical malfunction reminded the market of the need for resilient infrastructure and reignited the discussion about decentralization. According to mETH Protocol head Edmund Chua, the AWS failure caused a 90% drop in cryptocurrencies. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen called for calm but acknowledged that decentralized solutions should be taken seriously.
